Team Tankers Sells Two Ships

Team Tankers International has finalized the sale of two vessels. The company agreed to sell the Tour Margaux tanker built in 1993. After the quarter of 2017, Team Tankers sold the Sichem Dubai oil tanker built in 2007.

New record set for reaching North Pole

On August 17 2017, the Russian icebreaker 50 Let Pobedy set a new speed record for reaching the North Pole, having completed the journey from Murmansk to the North Pole in 79 hours. The 50 Let Pobedy, which is translated as “50 Years of Victory” is owned by the Russian Federation and is a part of the Murmansk port.

CSCL Jupiter runs aground in Westerschelde estuary

The 360-meter container ship CSCL Jupiter is now stranded on the Westerschelde estuary in the Netherlands. Help with freeing the container ship is underway as at least 5 tugs have been dispatched to help the CSCL Jupiter pull free. Shipping traffic has been closed.

Damaged US Navy Warship moved for repairs

The US Navy’s damaged USS Fitzgerald is to be moved back to the US after it collided with the ACX Crystal container ship in Japan. The vessel suffered flooding and underwent basic repairs, but it is not capable of sailing on its own.

Zeaborn buys 5 heavy lift vessels

Zeaborn has decided to buy five heavy-lift vessels from Rickmers Holding. Their price is high and the ships in question are the Rickmers Singapore, the Rickmers New Orleans, the Rickmers Jakarta, the Rickmers Dalian and the Rickmers Seoul, which were built in 2003 and 2004. Each of these ships has a market value of USD 7 million. The vessels will be delivered to Zeaborn in late September.

Eagle Bulk trims loss

Eagle Bulk Shipping ended the second quarter of 2017 with a loss of USD 5.9 million, compared to last year’s net loss of USD 22.5 million. Trade has increased and the company accepted the delivery of eight Ultramax vessels from Greenship Bulk.

Pirates kidnap five crew members

In Nigeria, five crew members were taken from the Oya 1 cargo vessel which was boarded by armed pirates. The attack occurred approximately 15 nautical miles south-west of Bonny Island, Nigeria. The identity of the attacking vessel has not been revealed

American Navy 3D-prints a submarine prototype

In cooperation with the Oak Ridge National Laboratory, the American Navy has succeeded in making the first submarine prototype. Engineers and designers will inspect the prototype for possible errors. The printing lasted 4 weeks and the entire project began in August 2016. The prototype is 9 meters long and has an estimated value of approximately 60-70 thousand dollars.
