Tanker Anchor Pierces Old Test Torpedo

A tanker anchor pierced an old unexploded device and dragged it all the way to Portland. Members of the Royal Navy were dispatched to evacuate the tanker’s crewmembers and release the torpedo.

The torpedo was found in an extremely corroded state and it originates from the 1980s.

 

Tanker Crewmember Medevaced

A crewmember of the Panama-flagged tanker Bochem Oslo was transported for medical assistance. The 39-year-old crewman was suffering from strong chest pains. The ship was anchored ten nautical miles off the Port of Durban.

Bulker grounds in New Brunswick

On 11 October, the Transportation Safety Board bulker carrier SBI Carioca ran aground off the coast of New Brunswick. The vessel hit a shoal but there was no entrance of water into the carrier’s hull or water pollution. The SBI Carioca was sailing from Norfolk to Belledune.

Clipper Group Sells 16 Ships

The Clipper Group company decided on selling 16 vessels as part of a financial agreement. The sale included Clipper’s four multipurpose carriers which will remain under Clipper’s commercial and technical control.

The Clipper Group said that it wanted to simplify its business and close its offices in Stamford, Sao Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Singapore and Beijing.

Franbo Lines Buys Supramax

Franbo Lines bought Supramax from the Taiwan Navigation company. The ship is scheduled for delivery by the end of 2017 and Franbo Lines will pay USD 8.55 million for it. The unnamed Supramax is 15 years old and the company’s largest ship.

Berge Bulk Buys Berge Toubkal

Berge Bulk bought a new cargo ship which was delivered on 29 September. The newbuilding is equipped with a strong main engine optimized for low-fuel consumption. Berge Toubkal is 300 meters long and 49 meters wide and is the 54th carrier in Berge Bulk’s fleet.

Fincantieri to Build Cruise Ship in 2018

Fincantieri is planning to construct a new cruiser in Australia. The construction will start in 2018. With his new partner BlueScope Steel, Fincantieri will build ship blocks using new tools and methods. The training activities will lead to the start of production of the Future Frigate in 2020.

Lisa Marie Faces Troubles during Sea Trials

The new Panamax container ship Lisa Marie suffered a mechanical failure during sea trials in China. On 20 September, Lisa Marie suffered a mechanical failure due to stormy weather. The ship had been struggling with 6.4meter waves, but was successfully towed to the Zhoushan Xinya Shipyard.
