Fincantieri is planning to construct a new cruiser in Australia. The construction will start in 2018. With his new partner BlueScope Steel, Fincantieri will build ship blocks using new tools and methods. The training activities will lead to the start of production of the Future Frigate in 2020.

Petredec will expand its fleet with two new VLGCs. The vessels will be constructed at China’s Jiangnan Shipyard and delivered to their owner in 2019. Petredec currently operates a fleet of 21 VLGCs.

Berge Bulk bought a new cargo ship which was delivered on 29 September. The newbuilding is equipped with a strong main engine optimized for low-fuel consumption. Berge Toubkal is 300 meters long and 49 meters wide and is the 54th carrier in Berge Bulk’s fleet.

The TI Europe tanker owned by Euronav NV recently underwent docking works and upgrades in Shenzhen, China. The tanker was built in 2002 and it is one of two unconverted vessels.

Franbo Lines bought Supramax from the Taiwan Navigation company. The ship is scheduled for delivery by the end of 2017 and Franbo Lines will pay USD 8.55 million for it. The unnamed Supramax is 15 years old and the company’s largest ship.

The Clipper Group company decided on selling 16 vessels as part of a financial agreement. The sale included Clipper’s four multipurpose carriers which will remain under Clipper’s commercial and technical control. On 11 October, the Transportation Safety Board bulker carrier SBI Carioca ran aground off the coast of New Brunswick. The vessel hit a shoal but there was no entrance of water into the carrier’s hull or water pollution. The SBI Carioca was sailing from Norfolk to Belledune.

A crewmember of the Panama-flagged tanker Bochem Oslo was transported for medical assistance. The 39-year-old crewman was suffering from strong chest pains. The ship was anchored ten nautical miles off the Port of Durban.

A tanker anchor pierced an old unexploded device and dragged it all the way to Portland. Members of the Royal Navy were dispatched to evacuate the tanker’s crewmembers and release the torpedo. The torpedo was found in an extremely corroded state and it originates from the 1980s.  

The Hudong-Zhonghua Shipbuilding Group delivered to its owners the Pan Asia LNG carrier. The ship is owned by the China National Offshore Oil Corporation. The Pan America, Pan Europe and Pan Africa vessels are currently under construction and are expected to be completed in 2018 and 2019.

Korea Lines Corporation has ordered two bulkers and the company would be paying USD 164 million. According to Yonhap, Hyundai Heavy Industries will construct the two vessels and deliver them to a new owner in 2020.

GoodBulk Ltd has entered into an agreement to acquire 7 to 13 bulk carriers from CarVal Investors. GoodBulk will pay up to USD 10.5 million for 7 carriers which will be delivered to their owner in year 2017-2018. GoodBulk has the option to acquire additional 6 Capesize vessels.

Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) and COSCO Shipping have confirmed ownership of YAMAL LNG carriers. LNG vessels are intended for the Yamal LNG Project, but there were not many details given. The total number of vessels will be increased to 17 in 2020.

Scorpio Bulkers has entered into two agreements to acquire one Kamsarmax and three Ultramax vessels. As informed, the ships will be bought for USD 90 million, and USD 77.1 million will be paid in cash. All of the Ultramax ships were constructed at Chengxi Shipyard in China.

133,500-ton Carnival Horizon, completed its final sea trials in the Adriatic Sea and will then re-position to the US. Carnival Horizon is the newest ship in the fleet which will be able to accommodate more than 6,400 people on board. Teekay Tankers has decided to sell two 1999-built Aframax tankers for USD 12.7 million. One Aframax tanker was already delivered and the other is scheduled to be delivered in the end of November 2017.

On November 12, on the Durand Reef, containership Kea Trader developed a crack and split in half. Critical break and heavy waves resulted in two units to sink. Now, they are being monitored by two tugs and anti-pollution specialists.

Euronav has disposed Artois, the oldest carrier in its fleet. Tanker was sold for USD 22 million and it is scheduled to be delivered to its new owner in December. Euronav’s fleet currently comprises 55 vessels.

Company Navios Maritime Containers has taken delivery of the first of four 2008-built Panamax ships. Panamax APL Denver is a part of the agreement in which Navios agreed to acquire four containerships for a price of USD 96.8 million. Company d’Amico Tankers has signed memorandum of agreement for the sale of 2005-built MR tanker. The 48,700 dwt tanker was built by Japan’s Imabari Shipbuilding. The vessel would be sold for a price of USD 14.1 million.

MSC Cruises has taken delivery of MSC Seaside from Fincantieri. The ship is 323 meters long, 41 meters wide and will be able to carry 5,179 passengers. Fincantieri will also construct MSC Seaview, which is slated for delivery in June 2018. MSC Seaside is the largest ship so far built in Italy.

‘Dutch Damen Shipyards Group’ has unveiled and presented its 3D printed ship’s propeller, the WAAMpeller. The propeller went through rigorous testing process which was verified by Bureau Veritas.
